Buying an apartment made more financial sense than renting for David at Trinity Walk

David Waters had been renting as part of a home share in London for years when he had an epiphany. Although he had his own bedroom, he had to share everything else with strangers. Could he afford to buy? So, he decided to explore the possibility of becoming a first-time buyer and researched the market.

Fast forward six months and taking advantage of the government’s Help to Buy scheme, David has been able to buy a spacious two-bedroom flat, priced at £460,000, on the first floor of Lovell Homes’ very popular new build Trinity Walk development in Woolwich.

David how it came about: “I knew that continuing to rent, as part of a house share, in London did not make good financial sense – it’s money down the drain. In fact, it made no sense at all as I now have found out the rental payments were higher than my mortgage is now. Plus, on a practical level, I basically had a bedroom and shared everything else with housemates.”

David added: “It was very obvious, once I looked at the floorplans and then viewed the apartment, that you would gain a lot more square footage for your money. Not only is the floorplate bigger than an average two bed apartment, the attention to design really creates a light, flowing and stylish home.”

David, a video marketing manager for a company based in Reading, added: “One of the important factors for me choosing to live in Woolwich is the excellent transport links. I work a few days a week from home, but I do need to travel to my company’s office in Reading. Having good rail links makes getting there really straightforward and, of course, the arrival of Crossrail is going to bring even more benefits to travelling into the West End and out of London.”

For David, the inclusion of large windows throughout the apartment introduces so much natural light throughout even on the gloomiest of winter days. “My apartment gets loads of light and the openness and windows mean that I feel connected with the outside when I’m working from home.

“Having integrated appliances, clean contemporary bathrooms, and interiors finished off to a very high standard with everything looking brand new and fresh, makes settling in far easier and means you can relax and enjoy your new place from the start. It has really felt like home from day one.”

David has also observed how Woolwich is clearly emerging as a place where young professionals and families are choosing to live, finding it affordable and great value, offering a better lifestyle with so much green space, and having a choice of good schools, transport and local amenities. David already had some friends living locally and is enjoying starting to discover how much is going on close by. The much-awaited opening of Woolwich Works, as a vibrant arts and cultural venue, is already bringing more people into the area.

David said: “It’s an area that has a lot to offer, with Woolwich Common and parks on the doorstep, as well as river walks and cycling trails. It has an increasingly cosmopolitan atmosphere with a wide choice of restaurants offering food from around the world, not to mention plenty of good cafes and bars. I’m so happy having a new home that gives me space to live, work and socialise and is a great investment for my future.”

Lovell Homes’ Trinity Walk includes one, two and three bedroom apartments and prices start at £355,000 for a one bedroom apartment.
