Buying at Trinity Walk part of an amazing year’s journey for young first time buyer couple
When Charlotte and Joseph were jetting off travelling to Australia at the end of 2019 for the first leg of a year long sabbatical from their finance jobs in London, neither would have contemplated that less than seven months later they’d be buying a brand new apartment.
But that’s exactly what’s happened. The couple, who had previously rented in the city for five years, have just moved into their very own two-bedroom apartment at Trinity Walk in Woolwich.
It’s been literally quite a journey, as Charlotte, 25, recalls. “We had an amazing first three months of the year in Australia, Fiji and New Zealand experiencing some bucket list things like parachuting, hiking over volcanoes and seeing some of the wonders of the world.
“Our travelling was all going to plan and we were exploring the Philippines when the first mention of Covid came to our attention there. We were told it would ‘blow over’ and we wouldn’t be affected on this remote island we were staying.”
Joe added: “Suddenly, things quicky changed and we were in lockdown! With no boats or planes in or out of the islands we were stranded. But we looked on the bright side – there are worse places in the world to sit it out!”
It wasn’t until June when the couple could travel back to the UK – albeit after an arduous 67-hour trip taking in three ferries and four flights!
Charlotte added: “We spent the next two weeks in isolation at my parents in Manchester where we hatched our plan to get onto the property ladder. We still had money left from our trip which we hadn’t spent. That could go towards a deposit for our own place.”
Having spent days researching new build developments in South East London the couple booked five viewings over a weekend when they went back to London. One of the viewings was at Lovell Homes’ Trinity Walk in Woolwich.
Charlotte said: “We wanted to buy a new build. It’s more straightforward and a less stressful experience. As first time buyers is was definitely the right option for us.”
Joe added: “Trinity Walk stood out for a number of reasons. It was the best value for money and the location is ideal. It’s near shops and amenities and five minute walk to the tube. When Crossrail opens, we’ll be able to get to work at Canary Wharf in seven minutes. That was a big plus for us.
“The immediate thing that struck us was how spacious the apartments are at Trinity Walk, and how well they are laid out. We were pleasantly surprised. The development has a modern, safe community feel to it. We visited a number of new developments that were just high rise buildings with no soul.
“We took a took advantage of Help to Buy and the stamp duty holiday to buy our stunning ground floor, two bedroom apartment with a huge terrace.
“The sales team at Lovell Homes were fantastic and very professional working out the best apartment for us. We couldn’t be more grateful.”
Charlotte concluded: “Looking back at the last nine months, we’ve had a wonderful travelling experience for six months and also managed to buy a property. How many people are able to do that? It’s been the best of both worlds.”
